The timelapse imposed upon the Ottawa Amorical Cup Organizing Committee meant that people who had originally stepped up to take on responsibilities for pulling together North America’s premier Blood Bowl team tournament no longer had the ability to dedicate time and effort to the job. However, Canada, and Ottawa, have lots of dedicated people to step in and pick up the burden. To these ends, personnel have begun the work of reconstructing the Amorical Cup website and communicating with teams that have already registered as well as with the broader Blood Bowl community. That you’re reading this is proof that work has begun in earnest.

April 9, 2024: Roster Submission Deadline Nears

March 12, 2024: Announcement on Gnomes (also applies to Jordell Freshbreeze)

Dear North American Blood Bowl Community,

The Ottawa Amorical Cup Organizing Committee is very much looking forward to hosting roughly 200 or so coaches on 50ish teams at North America’s team championship on June 1 & 2, 2024. The announcement of the release of a new team, Gnomes, and their Gnomish Star Player Rodney Roachbait, has generated questions about their inclusion in the Amorical Cup ruleset.

We have considered the issue. Key guidance to us comes from the NAF’s “Rules for NAF Tournaments 2024”. The key points therein note:

★ FAQ, errata and new rosters. Any rules clarification needs to be applied immediately. Should changes to existing rosters be published before release of the next annual NAF review, TOs may choose if they want to include either old or new roster. Which version is available should be clearly stated in the rulespack. Similarly, new teams will be optional.
★ Star players and inducements. As before, inclusions of some or all Star Players as well as other inducements is at the discretion of the TO. Custom Star Players continue to be available. For more details, refer to the NAF Tournament Approval Document.

The key phrases are:
1) “Should changes to existing rosters be published before release of the next annual NAF review, TOs may choose if they want to include either old or new roster.”
2) “As before, inclusions of some or all Star Players as well as other inducements is at the discretion of the TO.”

It has therefore been decided that even should Gnomes and Rodney Roachbait, as well as Jordell Freshbreeze, get released over the coming days, there has not been enough time to determine the impact of the team and stars on the current Blood Bowl meta to open the door to their inclusion. It is undoubtedly excellent news that Games Workshop has prepared a new team for release. They just will not play at this year’s Amorical Cup. See you on the pitch in Ottawa in early June!

February 22, 2024: Amorical Cup on Discord

The Ottawa Amorical Cup Organizing Committee has created a Discord server! Now, please keep in mind that most of us on the committee are dinosaurs and aren’t deeply familiar with how Discord works, but we’re going to make a hearty effort to make it decent. Here is the invite link to join in the discussion of the various Amorical Cup topics: https://discord.gg/X4g7EEev

February 12, 2024: Amorical Cup Steering Committee Modifies Ruleset

On February 12, 2024, the Ottawa Amorical Cup Organizing Committee was given a modified ruleset from the Amorical Cup Steering Committee. Just to be clear, the Steering Committee is the entity that accepts, reviews and selects bids to host the Amorical Cup from interested host city organizations. It is also wholely responsible for the ruleset. This website is currently being managed by the Ottawa Amorical Cup Organizing Committee, which has no choice but to run the tournament under the ruleset given to us. The ruleset was modified following a review of the results in those tournaments that ran their competitions using the original Amorical Cup ruleset and following feedback provided by the NAF.

We have modified the Ruleset page to reflect the modifications. We have tried to draw coaches’ attention to the changes for ease of use. Here is a link directly to the Ruleset page: https://amoricalcup.com/ruleset/

February 1, 2024 : 49 Teams Are Registered

The North American Blood Bowl community has shaken off its winter blues and realized that time is running out for securing a registration in the Amorical Cup. There were a spate of registrations during the last week of January, bringing the number of registered teams up to 49!

January 3, 2024 : The Tim-Bits Cup Has Been Approved! Registrations Open!

The NAF has approved the ruleset for a Blood Bowl 7s tournament on Friday, May 31, 2024, on the eve of the big event that kicks off the next day. This is a bit of a North American tradition: holding a small tourney of 7s for the folk who come in from out-of-town and who would like a chance to meet fellow coaches and participate in a bit of mayhem on the pitch. We want to make sure everyone coming from outside of Ottawa – Gatineau enjoys themselves, so we’re respecting this time-honoured North American tradition … and we’ve dipped into a particularly Canadian tradition to implement it! “What?” you ask? Well everyone who’s been to Canada knows the love this country has for a particular coffee outlet and its doughnut holes (note the proper spelling of “doughnut”, American friends). We hereby formally announce the Tim-Bits Cup Amorical 7s!

We have built a dedicated page on this website to the Tim-Bits Cup, which you can find by clicking on the tourney logo to the left or by following this link: https://amoricalcup.com/tim-bits-cup-amorical-7s/

To respect the team nature of the Amorical Cup itself, the Tim-Bits Cup will be a squad tourney, with squads of two coaches each.

There is a registration fee of $40 CAD / squad, and you’ll see the PayPal facility to pay for a registration on the Tim-Bits Cup page. For your fee you’ll get three rounds of Blood Bowl Sevens and exclusive, Tim-Bits Cup dedicated swag.

And the best bit … it’s being held in the heart of one of Ottawa’s stand-out tourist areas, the Byward Market, in the Lowertown Brewery. That’s right; for those of you who love to swig a pint of micro-brewery beer while smashing the skulls of your adversaries, we’re holding the Tim-Bits Cup in the best possible location. And you’ll be able to walk there in 15 minutes from the Amorical Cup lodgings.

So, isn’t THAT awesome?!?!

REGISTRATION IS OPEN! SIGN UP RIGHT AWAY TO RESERVE A SLOT FOR YOUR SQUAD OF TWO COACHES.
